Flights of Hope Haiti trip March 2011

We just completed a month long mission in Haiti. This trip consisted of  two parts. We had the plane flying the whole time we were there.

Our flights were mainly transporting medical teams and patients from one town to another. There was a group of surgeons from Tennessee that travel to Haiti  four times a year to perform operations for heart problems.

They were so pleased to be able to fly to the outer places of the country which normally would have taken many hours to get there by car. The saved time gave them more opportunities to see more of the sick.

They would like Flights of Hope to be there every time they are there. The doctors have a arrangement with a hospital in the Dominican Republic where they can perform the operations.

The problem is transporting the patients and family to Santiago. It could take two  full days of driving with the sick patient just to get there. We can fly them to Santiago from almost anywhere in Haiti in about 1 1/2 hours. This would be a great benefit for everyone involved.

We are looking at the logistics of this service right now. We need to come up with  on going funding for this project.

The good news is that we have volunteer pilots and aircraft mechanics all willing to give their time and resourses to make these trips happen.

During the time in Haiti we had a team come down from Belleville Ontario to minister with the orphanages. We also had some school teachers come and they were able to put on some teaching workshops for many of the local teachers in Haiti.

A nurse also came along who able able to see some of the sick in our area. She also had an opportunity to become part of a new project in  aplace called Welsh. A new medical clinic is being established there it will become a center piece for the community.

We are palnning new trips back to Haiti and if you are interested in going on a trip just contact us.

The plane is now heading north to the native reserves in northern Ontario.
